The SANE/SART teams consist of local sexual assault programs, law enforcement, medical professionals, advocates, social workers, and prosecutors from various counties around the state. SANE/SARTs meet to identify gaps in services and to discuss specific sexual assault issues in cases and how to better serve victims of sexual assault.
MCASA assists in building capacity, training, and providing technical assistance to Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner/Sexual Assault Response Teams (SANE/SART) across the state.
During the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) training the multi-disciplinary teams assist in training medical professionals on a standard model of care for sexual assault victims and conduct a mock trial demonstrated with nurses as expert witnesses, real prosecutors and judges in a real courtroom setting with a judge presiding.
MCASA has a nine-year relationship with the multidisciplinary team approach and has recently assisted Meridian/Lauderdale, Columbus, Neshoba, and Pike counties with the development of SARTs in the community.
